The installer went back into our basement, and after attempting to make a few adjustments, ultimately came to the conclusion that they had indeed installed the wrong heater.
The wrong heater! How does one install the wrong heater? I’ll tell you how, by not asking the right questions and simply going on assumption, that’s how.
When the company owner initially suggested the inappropriate heater, he did so based upon his own assumption about what we wanted. He never asked us any questions about what kind of heater we were looking for or really anything. The only thing he said was that this new heater would blow with more velocity, to which I replied we didn’t want any additional velocity. But somehow that information went in one ear and out the other. And because we were in a desperate state, with 2 young kids and a brutal winter, we didn’t have time to do our due-diligence and we blindly went along with his suggestion and we got burned.
The owner wasn’t trying to screw us over. His attention was perhaps a bit less than usual, and on our front we weren’t as prepared as we could have been. However, in these situations, experts need to take the lead. The owner needed to recognize our situation and work with us to resolve it. Instead, he marched forward without too much thought and he got burned as well.
Finally, a new heater was installed and it took another entire day; that’s money out of his pocket and time out of our lives. Had only questions been asked, both parties would be much happier, and that’s what every business owner should aim for!
p.s. The owner did his best to have us believe that he was doing us a favor by installing the new heater instead of rectifying his error…bad move, and let’s just say he won’t be receiving any references from us.
